What is the single/double hung window?
Single-hung windows, also known as single sash windows, consist of two sashes. The lower sash slides up and down while the upper sash is fixed. It is set vertically to form a rectangular frame with a locking mechanism in the middle of the top of the lower sash. This means you can open the bottom half of the window to allow air to circulate, but the top half remains fixed.
Double-hung windows also consist of two sashes. Both the upper and lower sashes slide up and down, meaning that you can open both the top and bottom halves of the window and select the part you want to ventilate.
